Storage requirements are growing exponentially, with growth rates of between 60% and 100% a year. Relational databases, email, Enterprise Resource Planning and eCommerce are all adding to the increased demand for storage. This means that in 3 years time you may have eight times the amount of data to store and manage, with the likelihood of no increase in your headcount.

Increasingly sensitive to issues of confidentiality and data protection, organisations must also ensure this information is well protected, but when required, can be accessed quickly and efficiently to process business transactions.

BSG Hosting Services provides organisations with the managed, best of breed dedicated storage solutions that they need to fulfil these requirements and free up valuable internal resource. Combined with our business continuity service and supported by our network and data centre infrastructure our storage solutions include:

Storage Area Networks (SAN) – Connected via high speed optical fibre communication technology typically to your LAN located within BSG’s data centre or remotely connected via a WAN, your managed SAN is a specialised network that enables fast, reliable access among servers and external or independent storage resources. SAN are capable of supporting disk mirroring, backup and restore, archival and retrieval of archived data, data migration from one storage device to another, and the sharing of data among different servers in a network.

NetWork-Attached Storage (NAS) – By making use of a network interface card to transmit LAN and storage communications, NAS is one way around the slowdowns and service interruptions that occur in a conventional file server model. NAS effectively moves storage out from behind the server and puts it directly on to the transport network. This removes any delay posed by slow file server hardware or operating systems. NAS devices are also optimised to process storage I/O transactions much faster than conventional parallel SCSI schemes.
